Yaseen Muzamil, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia (intern)

Suzanne Archbold, Partner

We have 6000 employees and 600 partners nationally. In the NT we have 70 people working in our team with six partners. Wedeliver professional services with a focus on providing audit, tax and business advisory services to our client base in the NT. The industry focus in the NT is Government, Private Business, and not-forprofit sectors. We have employed international students in Graduate roles and have also very recently had a number of CDU students participate in a Workplace Integrated Learning program where they complete a portion of practical hours with us that contribute to completion of a subject in their degree. The difference in students’ secondary education and life experiences can enable them to use a different lens to problem solving when they’re working with clients and in teams.Business writing in English for our international graduates can be an initial challenge; however we work with our international students to develop their business language. We have a program called Business Writing for our Graduates, which helps students to develop their business writing kills. In addition to this, we provide graduates with 1:1  coaching, on the job training and other technical programs that assist them in overcoming any challenge.

Student - Yaseen Muzamil Pakistan and Saudi Arabia (intern)

I am originally from Pakistan but was brought up in Saudi Arabia. I completed my bachelor degree in the UK and was working as a  graduate at Deloitte in the Middle-East. After working for about a year, I decided it was the right time for me to continue my education and study masters course. I chose  Charles Darwin University to study Master of Accounting. One of the main reasons for my choice was that my brother was already working in Darwin. Apart from that,  the courses offered at CDU were quite affordable compared to other universities cross Australia.  Also, having lived in London and Dubai, I wanted to experience a rather relaxed and less crowded atmosphere which Darwin has on offer. For me, working at Deloitte while studying was helpful in understanding the application of accounting and tax concepts in real life. This experience also ensured a smooth transition for me from the university to work place. Deloitte has a culturally diverse workforce and people are very friendly and welcoming which also assisted me in settling down quickly. In terms of my future employment perspective, I think quality experience working at a big four accounting firm along with the understanding of the local industry and businesses will certainly go a long way towards the growth of my career.
